“Sawa for free medication” (Sawa Care) (Together for free mediation) was founded in 2011 as a non-profit organization and a medical clinic that provides health services, medical consultation and examinations free of charge and medicine at a very low rate. Sawa Care is a legally registered NGO and applies all rules and regulations as requested by the Lebanese state and relevant ministries Registration No. 619, date 31/3/2011.
Sawa Care is dedicated solely to providing cheap and/or free, health assistance to those in need through:
- Securing the necessary medicines, especially those related to chronic diseases, at very low or even free prices.
- Covering medical examinations and providing free aid to those suffering from difficult economic conditions, in addition to spreading health awareness in the surrounding community.
- Conducting health examination campaigns, especially on international days of diabetes, breast cancer, heart disease, etc.
Sawa Care pledges to keep on assisting those in need no matter the cost. This initiative is not only crucial but is a desperate need, especially when the institution’s role is complementary to that of the government and private sector. Moreover, the economic crisis that hit the country early 2020, in addition to the rise and spread of Covid-19 and the latest deadly explosion at port of Beirut, made Sawa Care’s contribution to the affected society much more needed.
Through funding and donations, Sawa covers the fees of:
- Specialized doctors and nurses.
- Maintenance and upgrade of medical equipment at the clinic.
- Purchase of medicine to patients from pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies.
- Collect medicine from the Ministry of Health (provided for free by the ministry – but the required medicine is not always available).
Sawa Care relies on:
- Donations from expatriates.
- Monthly fees paid by an issued friendship card for members (140 permanent members).
- Donation boxes located in different regions of Lebanon (60 boxes).
- Fundraising events.
